Saeima and NGO Forum “Latvia’s Future in a Secure Europe!”

The Ministry of Welfare

On 7 May, the annual Saeima and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGO) Forum took place at the Parliament, with participation from Imants Lipskis, Director of the Labour Market Policy Department, and Juris Cebulis, Senior Expert of the ESF+ project “Support for Social Entrepreneurship”.
Marking the 20th anniversary of Latvia’s membership in the European Union and NATO, this year’s forum focused on Latvia’s future in a secure Europe.

The event was opened by Daiga Mieriņa, Speaker of the Saeima, and Agnese Frīdenberga, Chair of the Board of the Civic Alliance – Latvia.

Three parallel discussions took place during the forum:

  • “Prevention for a Safe Environment for Children and Youth” – participants discussed the development of the Plan for the Prevention and Combating of Violence 2024–2029, exploring what actions and legislative improvements are needed to ensure that children can grow up in a safe environment and a safe Latvia.

  • “Social Economy in Europe and Latvia” – participants exchanged views on Latvia’s Social Economy Strategy and related policy directions.

  • “Latvia’s Role in European Security” – discussions focused on how to enhance cooperation between public administration and civil society organisations to achieve shared, nationally important goals.

Following the parallel sessions, the key conclusions of the thematic discussions were summarised and presented.
The closing remarks were delivered by Daiga Mieriņa and Kristīne Zonberga, Director of the Civic Alliance – Latvia.
