Riga Wins First Place in European Commission Competition for European Mobility Week Activities

Ministry of Transport

On Tuesday, March 17, during a formal award ceremony in Brussels, Riga received the highest recognition from the European Commission for the activities implemented last year during European Mobility Week. The award is granted to a municipality for outstanding work in promoting sustainable mobility during the campaign’s main week, from September 16 to 22.

Riga was awarded first place in a European Commission competition for the activities carried out during last year’s European Mobility Week. This is the highest-level international recognition for contributions to promoting sustainable mobility.

The ceremony took place during a meeting of the national mobility contact points of European Mobility Week, which was also attended by representatives of the Ministry of Transport:

  • Sergejs Lukins – National Contact Point for the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan

  • Viktorija Tabakurska – National Cycling Contact Point.

The Ministry of Transport is proud to be part of the joint efforts to move Latvia toward more sustainable, convenient, and people-friendly mobility by participating in European Mobility Week events each year as for example, last year in the “Car-Free Day” event organized by the Liepāja municipality.
