Record number of students at the Internal Security Academy! EU support strengthens the preparation of future security specialists

Ministry of the Interior

The Internal Security Academy has reached a record number of enrolled students this year, with the support provided by the European Union playing a major role, including the co-financing of the informational campaign that encouraged students to apply.

This year, the greatest interest was in the State Police College's short-cycle professional higher education program "Police Work" and the University of Latvia's Faculty of Law bachelor's program "Pre-trial Investigation". Existing internal security specialists have also chosen to continue their education in master's programs offered by the University of Latvia's Faculty of Law, the University of Latvia's Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences, and Rīga Stradiņš University, strengthening the knowledge and skills necessary for professional growth.

Dimitrijs Trofimovs, State Secretary of the Ministry of the Interior, emphasizes: "Future security professionals must have not only a solid theoretical knowledge but also practical experience, and this is what we provide by working closely with the State Police College, the University of Latvia, Rīga Stradiņš University, and other law enforcement agencies. Today's students will be the ones who will take care of their country and its every resident tomorrow."

European Union support is indispensable for ensuring the development and modernization of the internal security sector. Funding for such projects not only allows for an increase in the number of students and the improvement of study programs but also for investment in the necessary infrastructure and technologies that are critically important for preparing competent and highly qualified specialists who can effectively respond to modern security challenges.

Project No. VP/IDF/2024/5 "Strengthening the State Police's response mobility and counter-terrorism capabilities by establishing a practical training center" is being implemented within the framework of the European Union's Internal Security Fund 2021-2027 planning period, with the lead authority in Latvia being the Ministry of the Interior. The project is co-financed by the European Union's Internal Security Fund. Implementation period: 01.04.2024–31.12.2029.
