Project SAFE–LV launched with EU support to strengthen international information exchange

Ministry of the Interior

In August, the State Police, in cooperation with the Digital Centre of the Ministry of the Interior, launched the project SAFE–LV under the European Union’s Internal Security Fund for the 2021–2027 programming period. The goal of the project is to strengthen cross-border information exchange with law enforcement agencies of other European Union Member States and Europol.

As part of the project, it is planned to expand the use of the Secure Information Exchange Network Application (SIENA) across State Police units, particularly in the areas of combating economic crime, cybercrime, organised crime, as well as serious and serial crime. It is also planned to establish new SIENA access points in regional criminal police units and to ensure the technical and functional integration of the system with the Single Point of Contact (SPOC).

To promote the effective use of the system in daily operations, the project foresees improvements to user account and access rights management, ensuring the interoperability of the Single Point of Contact's Case Management System with SIENA, and delivering training for employees of the State Police and other Latvian law enforcement agencies.

The project is implemented within the framework of the Internal Security Fund 2021–2027 programming period, for which the Managing Authority in Latvia is the Ministry of the Interior.
