Ministry of the Interior

On September 10 and 11 of this year, practical joint training simulating a forest fire was organized in the Latvian-Lithuanian border region under the FIRELESS project (LL-00275).

The goal of the exercise was to enhance cooperation, coordination, and practical skills between the fire and rescue services of both countries when responding to forest fires in the border area.

During the exercise, an operational command post was established with the participation of division and station commanders, ensuring the coordination of involved resources and the management of task execution.

In the operational sector assigned to the Latvian firefighters, a water supply system was established, drawing water from an open water source. Main hose supply lines approximately 300 and 200 meters in length were laid to supply water to the forested area.

The practical exercise provided an opportunity to test inter-service cooperation, information exchange, resource coordination, and water supply provision under realistic conditions, as well as to strengthen the joint response capabilities of Latvia and Lithuania in the event of forest fires.

Project activities are financed by the European Union Interreg Latvia–Lithuania Cross-Border Cooperation Programme 2021–2027.
