Outstanding musicians unite for the concert "Return to Ventspils"

Ministry of Culture

On October 18 at 7:00 p.m., the concert cycle “Return to Ventspils” will be performed in the concert hall “Latvija”, where, together with the Ventspils Chamber Orchestra and the mixed choir “Ventspils” under the direction of conductor Aigars Meri, three soloists will perform – percussionist Reinis Tomiņš, cellist Maksims Beitāns and organist Aigars Reinis. The concert will be hosted by musicologist and Latvian Radio 3 “Klasika” journalist Liene Jakovļeva.

The concert program includes Rihards Dubra’s “Light of Eternal Longing” Concerto for marimba and string orchestra, Valts Pūce’s “Psalmu burtnīca”, Pēteris Plakids’ “Pasticcio à la Rossini” and Marģers Zariņš’s “Divertimeno” for organ and timpani.

In the "Return to Ventspils" concert series, it is customary for Ventspils residents or graduates of the Ventspils Music Secondary School to play together with the Ventspils Chamber Orchestra, who are currently on their musical path elsewhere - in other cities or countries. At this concert, you will have the opportunity to hear the talented Ventspils Music Secondary School graduate Reinis Tomiņš, who actively performs as a soloist and performs in various orchestras. He has participated in the concerts of the Inese Galante's Festival “Summertime”, performed with the orchestra “Sinfonietta Rīga” at the Saeima centennial concert, and also performed with the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra on a concert tour in France. The musician is a laureate of several Latvian and international competitions, as well as the winner of 1st place in the national percussion competition. This year, he won a significant victory in the Yamaha percussion competition.

The concert will also feature one of the best Latvian organists - Aigars Reinis, whom the audience has already met in several concerts at the concert hall "Latvija", including  in the series "Organ Music on Sunday" at the concert "Piacciola and South American Rhythms" in September, which also featured Reinis Tomiņš. The winner of the Grand Music Award, Aigars Reinis, is a participant in many international and Latvian music projects. Among his musical collaboration partners are the State Academic Choir "Latvija", the Latvian Radio Choir, the Chamber Choir "Ave Sol", including successful and productive cooperation with conductor Aigars Meri, the Ventspils Chamber Orchestra and the mixed choir "Ventspils".

Cellist Maksims Beitāns began his music studies in his homeland, Latvia, but later continued at the Royal College of Music in Great Britain and the Swiss Conservatory in Lugano. He has been performing since childhood and is a laureate of 18 international competitions, having received five “Grand Prix”. Maksims Beitāns’ extensive concert geography has previously included Ventspils and the “Latvija” concert hall, so this will truly be a return for him as well.

The concert is organized by SIA “Kurzemes filharmonija” (Ltd.), financed by the European Regional Development Fund and the Ventspils City Municipality. Tickets can be purchased at the ticket sales network “Biļešu paradīze”, as well as at the box offices of the concert hall “Latvija” and the theater house “Jūras vārti”.

Photography and video recording may take place at the event. The obtained materials will be used for publicity purposes of the event, on the website of the concert hall “Latvija” and on social media accounts.
