The new building of the Janis Rozentāls Art School, part of the Art Education Competence Centre (AECC) National High School of Arts at 52a Slokas Street will be opened on 20 June at 12.00.
The mission of the Janis Rosenthal Art School (JRAS) has always been to build a strong foundation for young artists - to provide a space not only for learning, but also for thought, experimentation, mistakes and growth. This building, its renovation and the work that has gone into it are not only a direct contribution to the creative future of JRAS students, but also to the cultural space of Europe. It is a signal that art is important in Latvia and that the state, society and ourselves continue to believe in its importance.
The energy efficiency improvement and modernization works of the building were implemented with the European Union Recovery and Resilience Facility project "Improvement of energy efficiency in the buildings of AECC "National High School of Arts", the European Regional Development Fund project "Modernization of the infrastructure of the National High School of Arts and improvement of the environment for acquiring skills relevant to the sectors" and the state budget funds. The total cost of the reconstruction works - EUR 6,690,923.57.
The opening ceremony will be addressed by the Minister of Culture Agnese Lāce, the head of the Janis Rozentals Art School Jānis Dukāts, architect Kārlis Graudiņš and the head of the Reaton construction department Sergejs Vihrovs. The opening ceremony will be accompanied by the mixed choir of the Riga Cathedral Choir School (artistic director Jurģis Cābulis), musicians of the Emīls Dārziņš Music School, as well as students of the Riga Ballet School's Contemporary Dance Programme. The event will also feature the new exhibition hall of the Janis Rozentals Art School, where the graduation exhibition “Aftertaste” of the 4th year students is exhibited.
The project also benefited from the European Union Cohesion Policy Programme 2021-2027, funded by the Ministry of Education Science.
