LTV Panorāma news report on the EU's ROADPOL operation

Ministry of the Interior

This week in Latvia and across the entire European Union is marked by a heightened focus on road safety, as the "ROADPOL Safety Days" campaign, organized by the European Roads Policing Network (ROADPOL), is taking place. Its goal is to draw public attention to safe and responsible behavior on the road, thereby reducing the number of traffic accidents and their consequences.

As part of the campaign, the State Police are conducting intensified checks this week, paying attention to various violations that endanger both drivers and other road users. Special attention is being paid to:

  • speeding - one of the main causes of accidents;

  • aggressive driving and performing dangerous maneuvers;

  • driving under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or other intoxicating substances;

  • the use of seat belts and child safety seats;

  • the safety of pedestrians and cyclists.

The head of the State Police Reaction Department, Juris Jančevskis, spoke about the planned activities on the LTV morning news, emphasizing that such campaigns are an effective way to educate and remind the public about correct behavior on the road.

Initiatives of this scale, which promote road safety, are implemented with the support of the European Union. The European Union is actively working to improve a common security policy.
