Ministry of Culture

VSIA Latvian National Opera and Ballet concludes a contract for the implementation of energy efficiency measures in the historic building of the Latvian National Opera, which will be carried out with the financing of the European Union Recovery Fund. Pillar Contractor Ltd is the successful winner of an open tender procedure.

The renovation of ventilation, heating and heating units will be carried out in the historic part of the Latvian National Opera, including the replacement of radiators, the renovation and automation of the power supply system, the insulation of the roof covering over the public part and the workshop, the renovation of the water supply and sewage system, as well as the renovation of the historic interior of the building as necessary. The project implementation period is until May 29, 2026.

This will be the largest investment in the Latvian National Opera building since the reconstruction in the early 1990s. The total investment in the project is planned to be EUR 12.1 million. Of the total amount, EUR 11.6 million is financed from the European Union Recovery and Resilience Facility Plan 1.2. reform and investment direction Energy efficiency improvement 1.2.1.4.i. investments Energy efficiency improvement in public sector buildings, incl. historical buildings. LNOB's own funds will also be invested in the project.

"The Latvian National Opera and Ballet has been purposefully implementing activities to improve energy efficiency for a long time, seeking sustainable and environmentally friendly solutions. The renovation of engineering systems will solve the problems of the building's temperature, air quality and microclimate, as well as increase the energy efficiency of the historical building. This project is an important step in reducing energy consumption, optimizing the use of resources and at the same time preserving the building's historical heritage. The investment will significantly improve both the experience of opera spectators and the working conditions of our team," says Sandis Voldiņš, Chairman of the Board of the Latvian National Opera and Ballet.

“The Latvian National Opera is one of the symbols of Latvian culture. We will carry out these works with great responsibility, which do not promise to be easy, because the opera must continue to operate even during the renovation work. However, I am confident that, by constructively cooperating with the opera management, we will successfully implement the planned scope of construction work,” says Jānis Lāčaunieks, Chairman of the Board of Pillar Contractor.

The historical building of the Latvian National Opera is an architectural monument of national importance, therefore special attention will be paid to the implementation of energy efficiency measures in accordance with the recommendations of the artistic and technical study during the reconstruction process, including the renovation of the interior of individual rooms as necessary.
