On 12 and 13 October, the EU Informal meeting of ministers will take place in Limerick, Ireland, where representatives of the member states will discuss the future of Europe’s digital infrastructure, including the role of digital networks and satellite communications in promoting secure and resilient connectivity.

Latvia will be represented by Elīna Šimiņa-Neverovska, Deputy State Secretary of the Ministry of Transport, as well as Jurijs Sadovskis, Director of the Ministry’s Communications Department, and Zita Kanberga, Adviser on Communications Policy.

The first working session of the meeting will focus on strengthening the Digital Single Market by improving the regulatory framework for electronic communications markets and promoting the development of modern electronic communications across Europe, including the gradual transition from copper cable infrastructure to fibre-optic networks.

The second working session of the meeting will be dedicated to the role of satellite communications in strengthening Europe's connectivity and security. Member states will discuss the use of satellite communications to ensure critical communications services during crises, natural disasters, and other major disruptions.
