On January 29–30, 2026, comprehensive "Table-top" exercises were conducted in Latvia as part of the "FIRELESS" project (LL-00275). The exercises focused on managing large-scale forest fires in the Lithuanian-Latvian border regions, with the primary goal of enhancing cross-border cooperation and the operational readiness of firefighting and rescue teams from both nations.
Participants discussed and practiced joint strategies for fire containment, resource allocation, and emergency communication. A significant emphasis was placed on improving coordination and communication between the rescue teams of both countries, as well as the vital importance of timely information exchange and collective decision-making during emergencies. The exercise also included representatives from local municipalities and the State Forest Service.
These discussions and scenario simulations will serve as the foundation for a more detailed practical training plan, ensuring that firefighters and rescuers reach the highest level of preparedness for real-life emergencies.
European Solidarity: Our Shield for Safety and Unity
All project activities, including this exercise, are funded by the European Union Interreg VI-A Latvia–Lithuania Programme 2021–2027.
We extend our most profound gratitude to the European Union and the European Commission for this invaluable support, which transforms national borders into bridges of cooperation. This funding represents far more than just technical training—it is a direct investment in European unity and the peace of mind of our citizens.
Thanks to the vision of the Interreg programme, we can confidently state: while natural disasters know no borders, our readiness to overcome them together with the European family knows no bounds either. Thank you, Europe, for ensuring that—shoulder to shoulder—we are building a more resilient, greener, and safer home for us all!
