Interreg supports firefighters cooperation! Lithuanian and Latvian rescuers strengthen peat firefighting skills in Daugavpils

Ministry of the Interior

"Tabletop exercises" took place in Daugavpils, attended by representatives of the Lithuanian Fire and Rescue Department and officials from the State Fire and Rescue Service of Latvia. The exercises were organized within the framework of the PEATFIRE project. The project's goal is to improve peat fire management and effective extinguishing in Latvia and Lithuania.

During the "tabletop exercises," participants analyzed possible peat fire scenarios, developed action plans, and evaluated cooperation mechanisms between the two countries. This type of training is particularly important as it promotes knowledge exchange and the development of professional competencies, allowing participants to learn the latest methods and develop tactics necessary for extinguishing complex and long-lasting fires.

These exercises also strengthen the ability to react quickly and effectively to problematic situations, as well as improve cooperation and coordination between the Latvian and Lithuanian rescue services. The accumulated experience fosters mutual understanding, increases operational readiness, and ensures more effective action in the event of real threats.

International exercises like PEATFIRE significantly strengthen both professional growth and mutual trust between neighboring countries' services, while contributing to the overall safety of residents and environmental protection in both countries.
