Improved infrastructure for pedestrians and cyclists to be built

Construction of a separated pedestrian and cycling paths is set to begin in Rēzekne Municipality along the national main road A13 (Russian Border (Grebņeva) – Rēzekne – Daugavpils – Lithuanian Border (Medumi)), between kilometres 43.57 and 47.71, connecting Sondori Village with Rēzekne.

The four-kilometre-long section will feature a 2.25-metre-wide asphalt pedestrian and cycling path and new lighting infrastructure, linking it to the existing pedestrian and cycling network in Rēzekne. The project also includes the construction of a stormwater drainage system and the installation of an automatic pedestrian counting station.

Road safety barriers will be installed in areas where the new path runs close to the A13 road, while pedestrian safety barriers will be added along sections with high embankments.

To enable the planned pedestrian and cycling route solutions, 12 trees will need to be removed. The tree felling has been approved by the Nautrēni Administration.

The works are being carried out by SIA Pamatceļš under a contract worth €1,424,384.31 (including VAT). The project was designed by SIA Projekts 3, while construction supervision is being provided by SIA ACM Projekts.

The construction of the pedestrian and cycling infrastructure is financed through European Union funds, and the works are scheduled for completion in summer 2027.
