How EU funds help write new life stories? Līna’s integration experience in Latvia

Ministry of the Interior

Thanks to the support of the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund (AMIF), projects are successfully being implemented in Latvia that help third-country nationals not only find refuge but also become active and valued members of our society.

Recently, at the "Living Library" event organized by Impact Hub Liepāja, Līna Nguyen—a client of the Society Integration Foundation's (SIF) One-Stop Agency—shared her personal story, titled "I Am No Longer a Stranger." Her journey serves as a testament to how targeted support and personal determination can create a secure foundation for life in a new country.

The Path to a New Home

Six years ago, Līna and her family traveled thousands of kilometers from sunny Vietnam to choose Latvia as their new home. During this time, she has not only successfully mastered the Latvian language but has also found her unique voice within it. Currently, Līna is actively pursuing her education and is fully committed to participating in local youth events, thereby strengthening the local community and fostering mutual understanding.

The Significance of EU Funds in the Integration Process

Līna’s successful inclusion into society is no coincidence; it is part of a broader support system. The work of the One-Stop Agency, which provides practical assistance and consultations to foreigners, is made possible through European Union fund investments.

Integration is one of the fundamental pillars of a secure society. When people feel understood, supported, and a sense of belonging, all residents of Latvia benefit. Līna’s story confirms that home is a place a person builds through their own hard work, openness, and the support provided by the community.

The event and the support provided to clients are ensured within the framework of the AMIF.
