Ministry of the Interior

How is evidence-based migration policy created, and what is the role of EU funds in data analysis? During the Europe Day celebrations in Vērmanes Garden, the European Migration Network (EMN) National Contact Point for Latvia will invite everyone to step into the shoes of decision-makers and explore migration issues firsthand.

The EMN National Contact Point for Latvia, operating within the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs (OCMA), is part of a network established by the European Commission. Its primary mission is to provide objective, reliable, and comparable information on migration and asylum, supporting policy-makers both in Latvia and across the EU.

Thanks to targeted EU support within the framework of the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund (AMIF), the EMN National Contact Point for Latvia has significantly strengthened its capacity. This funding is the foundation for effective operations:

  • Innovation in Analytics! Digital tools are being introduced for the precise analysis of migration trends.

  • Exchange of Expertise! International conferences are organized, strengthening Latvia's role in shaping EU migration policy.

  • Public Education! Materials are being developed to make complex migration issues understandable to every citizen.

On May 9th, visitors to the EMN National Contact Point stand will have a unique opportunity to try the interactive game “Destination: Europe.” This is an educational tool that allows players to take on the role of decision-makers.

What will you discover? By playing through various scenarios—ranging from the reception of asylum seekers to labor market integration—participants will understand:

  • How multifaceted and complex is migration management?

  • How do the decisions of state institutions and society impact human lives?

  • How to find the delicate balance between security, solidarity, and economic growth?

Come to the EMN National Contact Point stand on May 9th in Vērmanes Garden, take the challenge, and test your ability to manage the processes that shape our shared European future!
