From 5 to 18 May, the annual online game will take place, bringing together students from Grades 10–11 and first- and second-year students of vocational education institutions.
The game offers young people across Latvia an engaging way to test and expand their knowledge about the European Union, its values, the welfare sector, and the role of EU funds in strengthening it in Latvia. Participants compete together with their classmates in a fun and interactive format, as informed by the organisers of the quiz – the Ministry of Welfare.
The Great Euro Quiz has become a well-established tradition and a highly anticipated event nationwide, with more than 100 teams taking part each year. Entire classes participate as a single team alongside their teacher. Over the past five years, more than 6,000 students have taken part. The quiz is not only a test of knowledge, but also a meaningful shared experience that strengthens class cohesion while competing for valuable prizes.
The quiz can be completed at any convenient time between 5 and 18 May. By answering 40 questions, teams compete not only on accuracy but also on speed, making both knowledge and quick thinking essential. Prior registration is required to participate. A computer and an internet connection are sufficient to take part.
Prizes that turn into real experiences
The best team in each region will receive a cash prize of EUR 500, which the class can use for a shared experience, such as an excursion, event, or another activity of their choice. The overall winner in Latvia will receive a prize worth EUR 1,000, enabling even bigger class plans. Winners will be determined in six regions – Vidzeme, Kurzeme, Zemgale, Latgale, Sēlija and Riga – ensuring that schools across Latvia have the opportunity to stand out.
Last year, the most knowledgeable class overall in Latvia was Class 10.b of Riga Zolitūde Secondary School. Regional winners included Class 11.d of Ogre State Gymnasium (Vidzeme), Class 10.b of Balvi State Gymnasium (Latgale), Class 10 of Engure Secondary School (Kurzeme), Class 11.a of Jelgava Secondary School No. 5 (Zemgale), Class 11.a of Ilūkste Rainis Secondary School (Sēlija), and Class 10.b of Riga Zolitūde Secondary School (Riga).
