From October 5th to 7th GORS, the Embassy of Latgale, invites you to the 8th International Organ Music Festival “ORGANismi”, where this year’s foreign guest is Lithuanian musician Martynas Levickis – one of the leading accordionists in the world, recipient of dozens of international awards. Organist Iveta Apkalna and accordionist Martynas Levickis will join forces in a duet on October 6th at the concert “Dubultais espressivo” and this will be the first joint performance of the two musicians in Latvia.
Iveta Apkalna and Martynas Levickis, performing on the stages of concert halls around the world, provide their instruments with the fame and attention they deserve. Organ and accordion are a rare, but increasingly common duet in recent years. It is especially striking when both artists are virtuoso masters of their personalities and their instruments.
Martynas Levickis (1990) is a Lithuanian-born superstar musician who has received awards at various world accordion championships, more than 30 international awards, and this year his achievements have also earned him the recognition of the prestigious German classical music award “Opus Klassik”. His debut album took first place in the British classical music charts, and he is the first accordionist to sign a contract with the Decca Classics label. Currently, Martynas Levickis is one of the most sought-after accordion soloists in the world. After concerts in Asia and Europe as a duet with organist Iveta Apkalna, this will be the first joint performance of the two musicians in Latvia.
On October 6, at the concert “Dubultais espressivo” at the Embassy of Latgale, GORS, solo arrangements of F.Glass, Fr.Angeli and Lithuanian folk songs for organ, as well as two movements from A.Vivaldi’s “Seasons” and L. Boëllmann’s “Suite Gothique” in accordion and organ arrangements will be performed.
About the festival
The international organ music festival “ORGANismi” was first held in Rēzekne in October 2015, showcasing the diversity and possibilities of the organ as a concert instrument. The festival is organized by the GORS team of the Embassy of Latgale in cooperation with organist Iveta Apkalna. The reason for the birth of the festival is the purchase of the digital organ “Johannus Eclessia” in 2014, allowing the Latgale Embassy GORS to become the first concert hall in Latvia, where, with the new instrument, it was possible to play an even wider musical repertoire, implement new forms of collaboration and sounds. Playing with the words organ (Greek: organ) and organisms, the festival organizers discover the previously unimagined possibilities of the interplay of the organ and other arts, centuries, and styles.
The 8th International Organ Music Festival “ORGANismi” is supported by the European Regional Development Fund and the Rēzekne Municipality.
