European Mobility Week encourages sustainable travel by train

Ministry of Transport

The Ministry of Transport (MoT), with co-financing from European Union (EU) funds, is implementing a campaign aimed at showcasing travel opportunities in Latvia by electric train in an engaging and entertaining way. Starting from 7 September, visitors to the campaign website arvilcienu.lv can explore new walking and cycling routes, as well as participate in an exciting game by identifying specific electric train stations. During European Mobility Week, which will take place from 16 September, the station-guessing activity will also be held in person at three shopping centres in Riga.

"Through this campaign, we want to encourage young people to travel by electric train, as Latvia offers so many wonderful and fascinating places to see and experience, all of which are close by and can be reached quickly and conveniently," explains Elīna Šimiņa-Neverovska, Deputy State Secretary of the Ministry of Transport.

The campaign website, arvilcienu.lv, features a collection of walking and cycling routes to destinations accessible by electric train, allowing everyone to find an enjoyable way to spend their day off. Visitors can also take part in a game where they must guess at which station each character will get off, based on the character’s leisure plans. Those who answer all questions correctly can register for a prize draw until 27 September.

European Mobility Week is an annual European Union initiative that promotes sustainable modes of transportation and encourages people to make greater use of public transport, walking and cycling in their daily lives. During the week, the station-guessing game will move beyond the digital environment and into real-life events. The campaign stand will be present at the Spice shopping and lifestyle centre on 16 September, Galerija Centrs shopping centre on 17 September, and the Domina Shopping on 19 September. Visitors will have the opportunity to try the station-guessing game, discover destinations that can be reached by electric train, and gather ideas for their next trip.

The “Next Stop: Day Off” campaign aims to present the electric train not only as a means of everyday transportation, but also as a convenient and modern option for leisure travel. It is built around the simple idea: “Hop on. Hop off. Discover!”

At the same time, the campaign highlights sustainable mobility, the development of public transport, and the contribution of European Union funds. Today, electric train services provide passengers with numerous practical benefits, making travel more convenient and accessible.
