European Commission launches public consultation on nature protection requirements

Ministry of Agriculture

The Ministry of Agriculture invites farmers, foresters, fishers, hunters, non-governmental organisations and other interested parties to participate in the European Commission’s public consultation on the evaluation of the Birds and Habitats Directives, also referred to as a “stress test”.

The consultation aims to assess the practical implementation of the European Union’s nature protection requirements, including the protection of wild birds, habitats and species across the EU. As part of the consultation process, the European Commission is collecting stakeholders’ views and proposals on reducing administrative burden and improving the efficiency and practical application of the existing requirements.

The public consultation will take place from 12 May to 10 August 2026 (until midnight Brussels time).

The consultation questionnaire is available online via the European Commission’s portal in all official languages of the European Union.

The link to the public consultation is available here.
