An EU support has been allocated to develop the processes for issuing and processing personal identification documents. The project will create a new information system, modern self-service kiosks, and more convenient e-services.
With support from the EU Cohesion Policy Programme 2021–2027, the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs (OCMA) has launched an ambitious project: "Development of a new personal identification document information system, implementation of a partial self-service solution, and development of technical infrastructure for issuing personal identification documents." The project's goal is to digitize and modernize the process of preparing and issuing personal identification documents, making it faster and more convenient for both residents and foreign nationals.
Planned Improvements
The project, which will last until the end of 2029, will involve developing a new version of the Personal Identification Documents Information System. A new e-service will also be introduced, allowing clients to pay the state fee and fill out applications online, with data automatically retrieved from other state information systems.
To improve service accessibility, new equipment for workplaces and customer self-service kiosks will be acquired. The project will also develop a service for issuing documents outside of OCMA offices.
Funding and Collaboration
The total project funding is 10 million euros, of which 8.5 million euros comes from EU funds. The project is being implemented in collaboration with the Information Centre of the Ministry of the Interior and the state-owned company "Latvijas Valsts radio un televīzijas centrs". This collaboration and EU support will ensure an efficient and continuous process for personalizing identification documents and will foster Latvia's digital transformation.
