How can we help newcomers to Latvia better understand their new environment, the country, and daily life?
By providing practical knowledge, useful information, opportunities to ask questions, and a space to engage in dialogue with locals.
In 2025, within the framework of the project "Latvia – A Country by the Baltic Sea!", the NGO "Shelter 'Safe House'" ("Patvērums 'Drošā māja'") successfully delivered:
🔸 theoretical and practical classes on life in Latvia,
🔸 to 443 participants from various countries worldwide,
🔸 across 29 training groups!
Course participants learn about the Latvian social support system, healthcare, employment opportunities, culture, traditions, and other essential topics that help them navigate daily life in Latvia with greater ease. The sessions are conducted through a mix of lectures, practical activities, and institutional site visits.
We extend our gratitude to all participants, lecturers, and cooperation partners for their shared achievements!
Why is this vital for national security?
The successful integration of newcomers into society is an integral component of national internal security. By understanding Latvian legislation, rights, duties, and the functioning of state institutions, newcomers are better equipped to resolve daily matters independently, avoid falling victim to fraud, and integrate more swiftly as full members of Latvian society. Public awareness and mutual understanding reduce social tension, fostering a safer, more cohesive environment for everyone.
The project "Latvia – A Country by the Baltic Sea!" (No. PMIF/14/2023/1/02) is implemented with co-funding from the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund (AMIF) for the 2021–2027 planning period.
