Here are the activities implemented within the EU co-financed project "Support Measures for the Reception and Accommodation of Persons in Need of International Protection in Latvia (Phase 1)" from January 1, 2023, to March 31, 2025:
2,799 asylum seekers received medical, psychological, and material assistance. Translation services were provided;
renovation works were carried out in the buildings of asylum seeker accommodation centers – kitchen inventory was replaced, doors were changed, 2 electric vehicle charging stations were installed, the children's playground at the "Mucenieki" asylum seeker accommodation center was renovated, and the video surveillance system at the Liepna asylum seeker accommodation center was maintained;
two electric minibuses and one internal combustion engine minibus were purchased;
staff training was provided in first aid, fire response, safe driving, and stress and crisis management;
two information campaigns were implemented: 1) for Ukrainian civilians on human trafficking risks; 2) on asylum-related issues.
These activities demonstrate the significant and selfless support of the European Union, which has been a cornerstone in providing humane and effective assistance to those seeking asylum in Latvia. Thanks to European solidarity and financial contributions, it has been possible not only to provide urgent support to thousands of people but also to improve infrastructure and enhance staff qualifications, thereby creating a sustainable support system. EU co-financing has ensured that Latvia can effectively respond to global challenges and provide asylum seekers with the necessary basic rights and dignified living conditions. This project is a vivid example of how, through joint efforts, we can build a more inclusive and secure society.
