On International Education Day, celebrated worldwide on January 24, the Ministry of the Interior emphasizes the vital role of education in building a secure, professional, and trustworthy public administration.
The internal affairs sector is founded on knowledge, professionalism, and continuous skill development. This is evidenced by the higher education institutions within the sector that prepare high-level internal security professionals for careers in the interior services:
The State Police College;
The State Border Guard College;
The College of Fire Safety and Civil Protection.
We would like to particularly highlight the consortium "Internal Security Academy" (ISA)—an alliance formed by several institutions (the Ministry of the Interior, the State Police College, Rīga Stradiņš University, and the University of Latvia). By pooling resources, this consortium works toward a common goal: preparing highly qualified specialists for Latvia’s law enforcement agencies.
The interior sector colleges and the Internal Security Academy provide a significant contribution to both strengthening the professional capabilities of the interior services and fostering public trust in the sector and the State of Latvia as a whole.
Invaluable Support from the European Union
The development of these educational institutions and the establishment of the Internal Security Academy are closely linked to the opportunities provided by EU funds. Thanks to EU funding, it is possible not only to modernize the learning environment but also to ensure that our security guardians acquire skills in accordance with the highest EU standards.
We express our appreciation and gratitude to the EU for its invaluable and sustainable support to the internal affairs sector. Investment in human capital and knowledge is the most secure investment in a country’s future—it creates a strong, professional, and digitally advanced security shield for Latvia and all of Europe.
Happy International Education Day to all those who learn and teach to keep our country safe!
