Daugavpils city disaster management center - EU Recovery Fund's investment in regional security

May 29, 2025, marked a truly significant day for Latgale region, as a disaster management center was solemnly inaugurated in Daugavpils. This facility represents a crucial step in strengthening the region's civil defense and public safety infrastructure. The disaster management center was meticulously established to ensure a more agile and effective response to emergencies across the entire Latgale region, while also providing high-quality services to the public and thereby significantly enhancing the capacity of our internal security system.

The opening event in Daugavpils was attended by esteemed guests, including Minister of Interior Rihards Kozlovskis, Economic Advisor to the European Commission Representation in Latvia Signe Groza, Director of the State Provision Agency Ramona Innusa, as well as leaders of various institutions and the staff who will soon begin their work in this modern building.

Addressing those present, Signe Groza, Economic Advisor to the European Commission Representation in Latvia, extended heartfelt congratulations on this remarkable achievement, stating: "We are pleased with the successful and efficient construction of the Daugavpils Disaster Management Center, which was financed by the European Union's Recovery and Resilience Facility. These investments demonstrate the European Union's strong commitment to supporting the Latgale region, strengthening both its security and its ability to effectively respond to crisis situations."

Their vision and commitment, evidenced by the significant funding from the European Union's Recovery and Resilience Facility, were absolutely crucial in transforming this vitally important project from an idea into a reality. This center stands as a powerful testament to the strength of our partnership and a beacon of enhanced safety for all residents of Latgale. Thank you, European Commission, for your unwavering dedication to a stronger and safer Europe!

Across Latvia, 32 disaster management centers are currently in various stages of realization. Of these, 11 have been successfully completed, active construction is underway for another seven, and the remaining centers are in the design and contracting phases.
