Ministry of the Interior

From September 11–12, 2025, the Chief of the State Border Guard, General Guntis Pujāts, participated in a meeting of the chiefs of police and border guard institutions of the Baltic states, which took place in the Lithuanian city of Panevėžys.

During the meeting, the chiefs of the institutions discussed current security issues in the Baltic region, with special attention to migration challenges and the protection of the external border.

The Chief of the State Border Guard emphasized that close cooperation among the Baltic states is essential to effectively respond to common security challenges and strengthen the protection of the European Union's external border.

To support these efforts, the European Union provides significant financial assistance through instruments such as the Internal Security Fund and the Financial Support Instrument for Border Management and Visa Policy. #EUfunds are effectively used to finance infrastructure improvements, the acquisition of modern technology (e.g., surveillance equipment, cables), staff training, and international cooperation.

#EUfunds funding is vitally important for the Baltic states to effectively manage and protect the European Union's external border.
