Five local governments have started implementation of micro-mobility infrastructure development projects with the financing of the Recovery Fund

Ministry of Transport

Five local governments have entered into a contract with the Central Finance and contracts Agency (CFLA) regarding receipt of financing from the Recovery Fund (AF) for the development of micro-mobility infrastructure and have started implementing the establishment of a single cycle route in Riga and Pieriga.

The development of cycling infrastructure is one of AF-financed measures in the transport system greening reform of Riga Metropolitan range implemented by the Ministry of Transport. For the development of cycling infrastructure over 52 km, AF funding of EUR 34.5 million is foreseen.

'With the conclusion of contracts, real work begins to make it as fast as possible to have a comfortable, secure, modern infrastructure that will enable residents to be mobile and use their bike in their daily routines, whether going to work and school or on leisure trips with friends or family. The creation of cycling routes in Riga and Pieriga will at the same time promote the choice of environmentally friendly transport, healthy lifestyle, as well as the connectivity of the centre and neighbourhoods. Every bicycle and pedestrian road created in the city, countryside and counties brings us closer to sustainable and safe mobility, "says Transport Minister Kaspars Brishkens.

Five local governments have commenced projects regarding construction, reconstruction, renewal, improvement or adaptation of bicycle paths in accordance with the regulatory framework: Municipalities of Riga State City, Ropazi District, Kekava District, Marupe District and Adazu county.

Projects should be implemented by 31 May 2026, when citizens will be given access to green mobility between settlements and preconditions for the development of neighbourhood connections in Riga and Pieriga, while contributing to improving the environment and quality of life.
