On 17 June 2025, the Cabinet of Ministers (CM) approved an information report* from the Ministry of Smart Administration and Regional Development (MoSAMRD) on the additional investment of the Recovery Fund of EUR 18 million for the rehabilitation or reconstruction of national regional and local roads for the purposes of the administrative-territorial reform.
By December 2024, 299 km of construction works have already been carried out with the support of the Recovery Fund investment. In 2025, 79 km of works will be carried out with the available funds. This will bring the total number of road works to a significant part of the road sections approved by the Cabinet.
However, not all road sections could be rehabilitated within existing financial means. The remaining 198 km of roads to be rehabilitated are.
Taking into account the balance of funding in other activities, the Thematic Committee of the European Union Funds on 29 May 2025 conceptually approved the reallocation of EUR 18 million to the investment under the responsibility of the MoEPRD for the rehabilitation and reconstruction of national regional and local roads.
This reallocation will allow for an efficient use of the available resources, without changing the investment targets and indicators set out in the Recovery Fund Plan, and for the rehabilitation of a number of other road sections that are essential for citizens.
