On Tuesday, September 29, the Cabinet of Ministers supported the allocation of an additional EUR 1.6 million from the EU Recovery Fund for the development of cloud computing services at the Information Centre of the Ministry of the Interior (Interior Digital Centre) within the framework of the state federated cloud.
This is provided for by amendments to Cabinet Regulation No. 435 of July 14, 2022, "Implementation Rules for Component 2 'Digital Transformation', Reform and Investment Direction 2.1 'Digital Transformation of Public Administration, Including Municipalities' of the European Union Recovery and Resilience Facility Plan."
The funding is intended to be used for upgrading the server infrastructure of the Interior Digital Centre. The Interior Digital Centre provides a centralized ICT infrastructure that hosts 278 information systems and technical solutions for the Ministry of the Interior, its subordinate institutions, as well as the State Chancellery and the Prosecutor General's Office.
The infrastructure of the Interior Digital Centre supports the operation of a number of critical national information systems, including the single emergency call number 112, the Civil Warning and Notification System, the radio communication system of the Ministry of the Interior, law enforcement information systems, as well as border surveillance, personal identification, and registry systems.
In the current geopolitical situation, the secure and uninterrupted operation of the state's digital infrastructure is particularly critical. Amid growing cybersecurity risks, it is necessary to strengthen the protection and resilience of critical information systems and their underlying infrastructure. Investments in the infrastructure of the Interior Digital Centre will help ensure the continuity and security of information systems essential to public safety and government operations.
