Ministry of the Interior

Currently, 52% of the Republic of Latvia–Republic of Belarus border section has been fully constructed and handed over to the State Border Guard. In the remaining section, construction work, configuration of built solutions, and commissioning are ongoing.

The deployment of technology along the state's eastern border is progressing according to schedule. Equipping the border between the Republic of Latvia and the Republic of Belarus with modern technological security solutions, including video surveillance, is expected to be completed by the end of this year.

Once all technological solutions are implemented, the State Border Guard will gain a continuous external land border protection system along the entire 172.9 km land border section between the Republic of Latvia and the Republic of Belarus.

What is a technological border protection solution? Constructing a technological solution involves far more than simply installing cameras. It is the creation of a complex and sophisticated information and communications infrastructure, comprising fiber-optic cable network infrastructure (including electronic communications ducting), power supply network infrastructure, video surveillance pole infrastructure, data transmission network infrastructure, perimeter surveillance technology (such as video surveillance) infrastructure, and other related facilities.

To strengthen the external border, LVRTC provides:

  • Construction of power supply infrastructure (including grid connections);

  • Deployment of fiber-optic cable network infrastructure (including fiber splicing/connections);

  • Installation of data transmission infrastructure;

  • Installation of data processing equipment;

  • Deployment of perimeter surveillance infrastructure;

  • Installation of various sensors.

The largest artificial intelligence implementation solution in Latvia

The technological infrastructure solution consists of a set of innovative tools supported by Perimeter Surveillance Software. Built on the interaction between AI computer vision and sensors, the software reflects real-time developments in the border zone with a high level of reliability and accuracy.

In sections where the solution algorithms are already deployed, the system filters events along the border and alerts users to incidents requiring specialist attention and action.

How technological security supports the State Border Guard

The solution provides real-time response capabilities against threats such as hybrid warfare, organized crime, irregular migration, and other security challenges in compliance with national security and border surveillance legislation. It serves as a vital component of the infrastructure required to safeguard the external land border.

It will help mitigate hybrid warfare threats while ensuring real-time response capabilities against criminal offenses related to illegal border crossings.
