A safer Latvia with EU co-financing! Action to take in case of cell broadcasts or emergency sirens

Ministry of the Interior

What to do in case of a cell broadcast notification or emergency sirens?

In emergency situations, residents in Latvia are warned via:

  • cell broadcast notifications on mobile phones;

  • emergency sirens;

  • public media broadcasts – radio and TV;

  • door-to-door visits (residential checks);

  • loudspeakers installed on emergency service vehicles.

Upon receiving a warning:

  • read or listen to the information in full;

  • follow the instructions provided;

  • inform your relatives and loved ones;

  • do not follow rumors or unverified information.

A warning is an opportunity to act in time and protect yourself.

Good to know!

The modern early warning system — cell broadcast — has been implemented and enhanced in Latvia thanks to European Union fund co-financing. These investments allow emergency services to reach residents within seconds, regardless of mobile network load, thereby significantly increasing the level of protection for the entire society.
