On Tuesday, July 7, at 1:00 p.m., representatives of the Riga City Council will present the first phase of the Old Town public space project—the reconstruction of Vaļņu Street and its connecting roads—as well as the planned solutions. The event will take place at the intersection of Vaļņu and Kaļķu Streets.

Representing the municipality at the event will be Edgars Bergholcs, Chair of the Riga City Council’s Urban Development Committee, Marta Kotello, Chair of the Riga City Council’s Outdoor Space and Mobility Committee; Pēteris Ratas, Chief Architect of the City of Riga; and Mārtiņš Slimbahs, Head of the Public Infrastructure Administration within the Outdoor Space and Mobility Department.
The preliminary study and development of the construction design were carried out by a minimal team from the Riga City Government’s Urban Development Department, while the development of the construction design and the construction work will be carried out by the Public Space and Mobility Department.
The reconstruction of Vaļņu Street, connecting streets, and related infrastructure is one of the most significant public space development projects in Old Riga, scheduled for completion by the end of 2029.
